Dr. James Yorke – CapSci 2010 Sunday luncheon talk
Dr. James Yorke is Distinguished University Professor of Mathematics and Physics and Chairman of the Mathematics Department of the University of Maryland. He is best known to the general public for coining the mathematical term “chaos” with T.Y. Li in a 1975 paper entitled “Period Three Implies Chaos”. He is, incidentally, a 2008 Washington Academy of Sciences Awardee for “his pioneering work in the development of mathematics, most particularly in his research on Chaos, which decisively contributed to the store of human knowledge”.
